Roy is considered to be the preeminent authority on optimal gait mechanics by leading health care and sports training experts.

Motivated by personal need, Roy has accumulated over 40 years of experience researching optimal neuromuscular foot and lower limb mechanics.

From his teens and through his mid-thirties, Roy was a competitive athlete who experienced a host of injuries, including broken bones, sprains, and muscle tears. Many of these injuries required some form casting or splinting, followed by rehabilitation. In the early 1980s, he was prescribed orthotics to deal with collapsed arches that were caused by years of 100+ days per winter in overly tight ski boots. Having spent many months in casts and splints, Roy intuitively knew that the orthotics would have the same weakening effect on his feet. Instead, he sought to look beyond the boundaries of conventional supportive and cushioning treatment methods to find a way to rehabilitate his collapsed arches.

Coincidentally, at this time, Roy saw a documentary about a man in his early 30’s who had lost both arms in a farm accident when he was a child. In the video, the man used his feet they way most of us use our hands as he went about his daily activities. He could use a fork and knife, wash the dishes, and drive his tractor. Roy contemplated that if the man could train his feet to accomplish these daily tasks, there must be a way to retrain his own collapsed arches. However, after considerable effort, Roy was unable to find any credible research in this area.

As a result, Roy began his research and, over the past 40 years, has had the good fortune of collaborating with or receiving input from some of the world’s leading experts in sports medicine, orthopedics, sports training, chiropractic, and podiatry. Roy’s work has led to the development of a new and widely acclaimed understanding of optimal gait mechanics and the critical role that the foot plays in lower limb neuromuscular function. This new understanding of optimal foot dynamics has been integrated into rehab and sports training programs and insole products that are used globally by world-class and professional athletes, trainers, and health care professionals.
